A dazzling array of marine life seemed best suited to capture of the glitter and high voltage energy of this larger than life personality. I wanted the environment of the piece to elicit a memory of the Elvis Presley on stage – the bright, colorful, lights illuminating his distinctive features. The varied species of fish form patterns of color and a sense of motion independent of the portrait, the fish move to the right while the figure faces left. Both visual realities existing apart from each other become inseparably linked.
